My DJ-6 Project
Let me show you what I found in 2012.
This jeep was advertised on www.Kijiji.ca as a CJ-6 1962. I did ask more details about it and I got more pictures:
I was surprised to see the serial number.
8605 10062
Normally, I was used to see number starting by 8405. So I did some research and found out that 8605 was for a DJ-6. I found the serial information on the CJ3B website.
It was the first one made on September, 1965!
They asked 1200$ for it… A couple of weeks later I was on my way…
A thousand dollars and spare; tire, manifolds, mirror, front right wheels hub later I was on my way back home!
Before shaking hand and putting the jeep on the trailer, I did check if the serial number on the plate match the one on the frame:
I know, it’s hard to see it. Here is a later picture taken while at home;
I was quite happy with my find.
Stay tune. You will see what I found in my research about it in my next post.

I really liked what you are doing. I recently got my hands on a 1965 DJ6 and I am working on restoring it as we speak. I have run into some issues with the starter and ignition coil and am wondering if you have any advice. If you shop around the big name auto parts stores they are asking for way too much money for a replacement. What are your thoughts regarding rebuilding versus replacement? Same goes for the brake system. Rebuild the master cylinder or replace it? Thank you in advance for any advice you have for this novice!
Hi Micheal, I always try to rebuild all I can do. Sometimes, even if I try very hard, it is just impossible. I did by two other CJs just for getting more spare parts. It’s also depends if you are doing a 100% stock restoration. I found some upgrade kit as a dual master cylinder replacement is a good safety choice. Since the DJ-6 is a quite rare bird, I’m wondering what is the serial # of our’s.
